01 The Cabin Bakes at the Dock

Cabin glass takes the full sun.

At anchor or in the slip, the saloon and helm windows take the sun all day and the cabin turns into an oven. Interior curtains only trap that heat against the glass. An exterior solar screen stops it on the outside of the window — the U.S. Department of Energy rates exterior shading the most effective way to cut solar heat gain — so the cabin stays usable.

The studs bond to the frame or gelcoat with 3M™ VHB, so there's no drilling into the hull — and it snaps off when you're ready to get underway.

05Questions

Is this a cabin shade or a bimini?

It's an exterior shade for the boat's windows — cabin glass, helm windows and windshields. It is not a bimini, canopy or cockpit cover; it snaps flat over the glass to keep heat and glare out of the cabin.

Will it drill into the hull or gelcoat?

No. The studs bond to the frame or gelcoat around the glass with 3M™ VHB — no screws, no holes, and nothing that damages the finish.

Can I take it off when I'm underway?

Yes. Unsnap the mesh and stow it; the studs stay put, so you snap it back at the dock or anchor. No tools.

Black or white mesh for a boat?

Black blocks up to ~90% of the heat and glare — best for a hot helm or cabin. White is a more open weave for a brighter cabin and more outward view.

Does it fit windshields and odd-shaped cabin windows?

Yes. The 6 ft-wide mesh is cut to fit any window shape — wraparound windshields, port lights and cabin glass.

Cool the cabin.

Measure the cabin glass, pick your mesh, and snap it on. Comes off when you cast off.
